Challenges in the music industry are as follows
(1) Finance to promote our songs-Most singers and musicians face very serious challenge when it comes to financing their projects. Be it to pay for studio sessions to produce and mix songs, pay for event centres, instrumentalist and singers, pay bloggers, promoters, hire a manager and secure spots in media houses, to mention a few. The absence of money makes it almost impossible to achieve your goals as a singer. If this is what you have chosen for yourself as a career then you are not going far.
Content display is in levels. The value of your content won’t be felt without adequate funding. The money drives your artistry and content, when you don’t have money things won’t go well. Let me add that you can be passionate, enthusiastic, gifted but without money you will not get better at what you do. Money fine-tunes and amplifies your passion, gifting and delivery.
(2) Support from some spouses: As a singer or an artist, if you don’t have the full support and encouragement of your spouse you cannot go far in the ministry. You just have pray to have a spouse that shows understanding and likes what you do. Without that it can get very frustrating, especially as it is not easy to combine the demands of the home front and ministry.
For a lady in the music ministry, marriage could pose a serious challenge. Being a wife has challenges too (that’s not a bad thing) and it’s more than being married; it demands that you take care of your spouse, children and even extended family members. Success in the music ministry demands your whole being, attention and energy. Some other things will seek to grab your attention and believe me your marital commitment will have most of it. So, it takes a spouse that understands that you are sold-out into what you are doing to help you fulfill ministry. This is a very huge issue. In my case am married to a man who supports me hundred percent and that has contributed greatly to the success I’ve enjoyed.
(3) Office work/Business and home chores: most music ministers have their regular job or a business to run except you are into full time ministry which is not always the case. Your job would always affect your life as singer because you don’t have the luxury of time to spare or the liberty to do what you want. So your secular job confines your activities.
(4) Enough Time for rehearsals: I don’t have enough time to rehearse as much as I would want to, due long line of activities ranging from domestic activities, office work, church activities and other events. You rarely have ‘good’ time to rehearse as you are supposed to. Let’s not forget that practice makes perfect. It is not magic! Being talented is not enough, you need to grow it by practicing constantly. When you don’t rehearse well, you cannot give your best. That is it.
(5) You need a Band: yes! You do need a good band and that is really important. They should be those who believe in you and what you stand for. Every singer/music minister who wants to be heard needs a formidable team. They must be skillful, should be able to understand your ‘your personal style of delivery’ they are those who’ll help you interpret your content properly. They must be able to perform their roles excellently and seamlessly. But then, it is both difficult and financially tasking to be able to assemble such a group.
My advice to women in ministry
I will focus more on those that are married; that you got married doesn’t mean your ministry should come to an end, it is just the beginning of another phase in the ministry.
Is your husband in support of your ministry? If he is, you should learn not to take his support for granted. When you have a program, you should inform your husband on time, carry him along, he should be in the full picture of your programs anytime, anyday, do not assume he knows.
In everything you do, try to strike a balance. When you leave the house make sure you settle him, so that even when you stay out longer he’s aware and you have done your own part at home. Don’t neglect your home, yet you should not neglect the work of God but it is important that your husband be fully involved, you can even be be seek his inputs for prayers, about what to wear and other matters. You can ask him questions, let him be involved somehow.
